Most dogs do not hate water — they hate surprises. The number one thing our groomers see is a dog lifted into a running shower with no warning. Start with an empty tub, treats, and thirty seconds of nothing. Let curiosity do the work.
Keep the water warm, never hot, and always wash face last with a damp cloth instead of the sprayer. Ears folded gently back keep water out of the canal, which is where most post-bath head shakes (and infections) begin.
Dry on low and slow. High-velocity dryers are efficient but terrifying for first-timers; a stack of thirsty towels plus a calm voice does the job for short coats. Long coats get the quiet dryer on its lowest setting, paired with a lick mat smeared with peanut butter.
